Baby Sitting
As the parent of a baby you want to spend as much time as possible with the infant, but of course this is not always possible because of restrains such as work. This is where you may find yourself in need of babysitting services. You may also need to call upon a babysitter for the occasional evening or day where you are going out and it is not appropriate to take baby with you. It can be difficult for parents to put their trust in a babysitter at first, particularly if you have to call upon the services of a complete stranger. However, here are a few pointers to help make the process a little easier:
- Prepare yourself: When you have a baby it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with local babysitting facilities as early as possible, even if you do not need to use the services yet. By doing this, you will already be aware of services available when you do need a babysitter, which can save you the hassle of having to rush around and see what’s available at the last minute.
- Make sure that you meet the babysitter beforehand: it is important to feel comfortable with the babysitter before you actually leave your baby with her or him. Make sure that you get to meet the babysitter you plan to use in advance, and only use her or him if you are totally comfortable – parent tend to have a gut feeling where child care is concerned! Also, allow the babysitter to meet the baby in advance whilst you are there, so that you can see how she or he is with the baby.
- Experience and credentials: Experience is invaluable when it comes to looking after a baby, so when you are looking into babysitting services make sure you check on the experience that your babysitter has. Also, check the babysitter’s credentials to ensure that other parents have been happy with the services provided.
- Recommendation: It is a great idea to use babysitting services that are recommended by other parents. If you need to find a babysitter then ask around at a mother/father and toddler group or check with friends that also have babies or young toddlers.
- Ask relations: Babysitting services can also be provided by responsible family members, so it could pay you to speak to members of the family such as siblings or older nieces and nephews that may have had experience in looking after babies before.
