Baby’s can be very vulnerable and susceptible to health problems, simply because they have low immune systems at such a young age. From minor ear and eye infections to more serious health issues, there are many different things that could affect your baby’s health, and it is important to keep an eye out for any symptoms that could relate to a problem with his or her health. Here are some points to remember in relation to your baby’s health
- Invest in a baby health book – there are plenty available these days, and these could help you to identify symptoms and have a better idea of what may be wrong with your baby. Even if your baby seems fit and well, it is a good idea to have a read through one of these books, as it will enable you to familiarize yourself with the more common illnesses and related symptoms that can affect babies.
- Don’t be afraid to speak to your doctor – many parents worry that they will seem paranoid if they keep approaching their doctor about their baby’s health. However, if you have any concerns about the health of your baby, or he or she is displaying symptoms and you are not one hundred percent with regards to what is wrong with the baby, then it is vital that you do speak to your doctor in order to ensure that there is no serious problem.
- Get advice from the professionals – if you have any concerns about your baby’s health, or you simply want to be prepared for the more common illnesses from which babies suffer, you can speak to a health professional such as a health visitor for support and advice on the matter. This can help to put your mind at ease, as well as help to maintain your baby’s health.
- Vaccinations – there are many vaccinations available these days to help protect your baby against a variety of illnesses. Speak to your doctor or nurse about the different vaccines on offer, and if you have concerns about side effect discuss these with the doctor or nurse too.
- Childcare – If your baby is left with a childminder during the day, and the childminder also look after other kids, check on the policy with regards to sick children. At this age infections and illness can be passed easily from one child to another, so the childcare facility you use should enforce strict guidelines with regards to attendance for children or babies that are ill.
